Why Donate?

Did you know 1 in 6 couples experience infertility at any given time?

Some women experience great difficulty when trying to conceive a baby or carrying their pregnancies to term. In many cases, this is because either they cannot produce eggs or the eggs they have are of poor quality. The donated eggs can also be used in surrogacy to help gender or sexually-diverse couples achieve their dream of parenthood (depending on state legislation).

Egg donors are needed to give these individuals the opportunity to have a child. Egg Donors Australia operates an active egg donor program for this very reason.

Who Needs Donor Eggs?

  • Women who have undergone premature menopause.
  • Women who, for genetic reasons, cannot use their eggs.
  • Women who have been repeatedly unsuccessful in the In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) program.
  • Women born without ovaries.
  • Women who have undergone treatment for cancer.
  • Single, gender or sexually diverse men considering surrogacy.

Will I be Compensated for my Donation?

In Australia, the donation of reproductive tissue must be altruistic. It is an offence for someone to intentionally give or offer valuable consideration to another person for the supply of a human egg, human sperm or a human embryo. It is also an offence for a person to intentionally receive, or offer to receive, valuable consideration from another person for the supply of a human egg, human sperm or a human embryo. However, this does not include the reimbursement of reasonable, verifiable out-of-pocket expenses incurred by a person in connection with the supply of a human egg, human sperm or a human embryo.

While becoming an egg donor, we aim to provide you with as much information as you require. Our friendly staff is available to discuss any questions you may have about our donor program, so please feel free to contact us. We are here to help.
